New Project!

While on my trip to Halifax a few weeks ago, I got to watch this amazing woman doing the Sufi Dancing – like the Whirling Dervishes of Persia and other places Eastern. I was totally mesmerized by the form she created….google Whirling Dervish for wonderful images! So, I decided to use that form and inspiration as a place to create a new teapot form!!! The past couple of weeks I’ve done drawings, created mock ups and now today, i put together the elements i threw the other day.

the above image is of the mock-up pieces i made a few weeks ago….i changed some aspects of them for the elements I threw the other day.

This is how i make spouts….a coil that has a small dowel inserted and then the coil is expanded.

Terry came up with this wonderful solution to holding the spout in place while it is still to wet to hold its form pretty cool!!!

Adding the top!

These are the 4 i put together, ready to have the next phase done. I’ll get back to them tomorrow and put on a handle and a base!!! They need to stay covered till i work on them then! Also, I’ll make lids that will fit snugly inside that top piece!

I’ve had such a great time exploring this new form and figuring out how to connect the elements and at what stage! So exciting to be creating something new and different. It did hit me this afternoon that I’ll have to figure out how the hell to glaze them….oh well, there are still a few breath holding moments to get past….like attaching the foot, putting them in the bisque kiln etc! But very satisfying feeling right now!!!

Your enthusiasm for this new project comes through loud and clear!! Isn’t it wonderful how new ideas come from the most unexpected quarters?

The clever spout supports look rather like the old toothache “cure” we used to see (many moons ago) in cartoons and in “The Little Rascals.” Made me giggle ;-0

Love your new teapots and love to see them in the leather hard stage!
Do you whirl after each tea pot is finished? Go girly go!
