Here’s a glimpse of some of the new glazes, actually on pots…..that have been occupying me for the past few months. There’s still a lot of testing to do, and in fact after posting this entry I’m heading to studio to get the next phase of glaze tests organized and hopefully get the kiln on tomorrow!
I actually love making teapots, and they are very tricky – I enjoy (mostly!) the challenge they offer. I have explored many different forms, but I seem to keep returning to this one! This glaze is really wonderful, it often reminds me of mahogany – it’s very rich and moves thro a variety of reddish browns!
This glaze, called Floating blue, is one that has a lot of potential, I’ve done 2 tests so far and it’s still not where I would like it to be….it’s a bit too green for my liking. This is one that will be tested again today!
We found the recipe for this glaze on-line, I think it was Ceramics Daily, and was offered as a ‘fake wood fired’ glaze! Now I have to say, at the time, I was so not interested in making ‘fake wood fired’ pots….never have been interested and never will be interested….. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE wood fired pots, but if you want pots to look ‘wood fired’ they need to be fired in a wood kiln!!! But the results of this glaze were somewhat pleasing and interesting, with lots of potential, there needs to be still some tweaking, but on the whole I like the look of it. So, I’m going to have to rename it….any suggestions?
The chrome red glaze combined with the turquoise matt glaze is my favorite right now….I’ve used these glazes for many years, in a small amount.
These cups, measuring about 4″ high, snuggle into your hand so comfortably, and hold a very reasonable amount of wine…. and they could also be used for juice, or tea.
And finally, let me introduce you to my two studio mates…..
Zoe is a 6-year-old lab-hound mix, very fast and she loves to chase little rabbits around Big Hill!
Sherlock, a 10-year-old lab, is sweet and is totally in love with Zoe….they make a great couple!!!
Ok, off to the studio to continue glaze testing.

thanks for your comment, and i’m glad you like the floating blue glaze, i think it really does have great potential, and there are new tests in the kiln as i type….the kiln will go on tonight, finishing tomorrow morning and opened wednesday morning! a long process !
anyway, please don’t fret about the card, things can take a couple of weeks coming across the pond….i will go to the post office tomorrow and maybe it’ll be there!

Not sure if this works for me! Back home after a grueling journey through driving rain dodging the 16 wheelers sending up their own tsunamis as they rattle past on the highway. Weather much milder and the garden calls after four months of neglect. I loved the tomato picture. I do miss the peace of Baddeck and my friends in the woods! Rosemary
